Kyoto Kurama - Madake Dobari Shinai

This is a versatile Jissengata Shinai with three grip thickness options. Compared to the Hayabusa model, this Shinai is solid and effective for techniques like Osae and Harai Waza. It is made from Japanese Madake bamboo, known for its excellent feedback and durability due to its grain density.

The combination of the Jissengata shape and Madake bamboo makes this Shinai very responsive and enjoyable to use. It comes in three grip sizes: a regular 26mm diameter, a thicker 28mm, and a very broad 30mm. The grip size affects the balance—thicker grips make the tip lighter and more responsive. If you want to control the center line and deliver quick, responsive techniques, the 26mm grip is ideal. For emphasizing Debana Waza and maximizing maneuverability between techniques, the 30mm grip is better.

All three versions weigh about 480g without fittings. Fittings are optional; otherwise, the Shinai comes with bamboo only.
