The Story

The Jo is a short staff used in Jodo, Aikido and various Koryu styles of bujutsu.  It is a simple staff and can come in various lengths.  The most common length is approximately 127.6cm which is where the 4.21 Shaku comes from.  Shaku is a traditional Japanese unit of measurement.

You can choose between Japanese Red or White Oak.  Red Oak is light and easy to handle, whilst White oak is denser and heavier - more suited to vigorous contact training.

---------------------------------------------------

Red Oak is oil treated. White Oak, however, is completely untreated. For a 'how to' guideon waxing wooden weapons, please check out our walk-through video, "How to wax bokken."
